What are interim assessments?
You may hear your student or their teachers talk about interim assessments, but what are they?
Interim assessments are check-ins given during the school year. Students in K–2 take one interim, and students in grades 3–10 take two interims. These assessments help teachers see how students are doing in a subject. They are not used to determine grades. Interim assessments are designed to look at the whole picture of a subject. You may hear the word “blueprint” used when talking about assessments. A blueprint is simply a roadmap of everything students are expected to learn in a subject during the year. Instead of focusing on just one lesson or unit, interim assessments include questions from across the subject to show how students are doing overall.
After interim assessments are complete, teachers review the results to better understand student progress and next steps. Teachers use this information to:
See which skills students are already comfortable with
Spot areas where students may need extra support
Plan small groups, review activities, or enrichment
Interim assessments help schools respond during the school year, instead of waiting until the end. They give teachers and families useful information so we can work together to support student growth.

Second Grade Parents: If you were unable to attend last night’s informational meeting, you can click here to view the information shared at each campus. This explains the new LEARNS Act requirements related to third-grade promotion that begin this school year and how our schools are supporting student success.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your campus principal. Additionally, if you need more information about ATLAS testing, the Parent Portal, learning targets, or how you can help at home, visit our Learning and Assessment Center here. We appreciate your partnership as we work together to help every student thrive.

11th grade students will take the ACT during the school day on February 24. The test will begin as soon as possible after the first bell.
The ACT measures skills students have been building in English, math, reading, and science. Recent updates to the ACT include a slightly shorter test, more time per question, and fewer answer choices in math, helping students work at a comfortable pace while still showing what they know.
Students can find helpful information about test day expectations, practice questions, and preparation tips on the Information for Examinees page. Information for Examinees Page
This free, school-day ACT gives students an opportunity to gain experience and earn a college-reportable score in a familiar setting. Questions? Contact Mrs. Powell at powellt@whitehallsd.org

• The school day will begin 9 minutes earlier
• The school day will end 9 minutes later
In addition, Good Friday will be a school day and will serve as makeup day #2.
The last day for students will be May 21.
Principals will share campus-specific details, including updated bell schedules, in the coming days.
This honor reflects your dedication, leadership, and the meaningful work you do for students every day. The impact you make is evident across our school community, and we are grateful to have you at Gandy. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition and continued success.

Through this activity, students learned that dressing professionally shows potential employers they are serious, prepared, and ready for the job. They also gained valuable experience in budgeting—making thoughtful spending decisions and understanding the importance of setting and sticking to a financial plan.
How can I view my student’s ATLAS results?
Families can view ATLAS score reports through the Parent Portal. Once logged in, you’ll be able to see your student’s assessment results and check their progress throughout the year and from year to year. A short video tutorial is available to help you log in, along with a quick guide that explains how to read your student’s scores. Both can be found in the Learning and Assessment Center section of our website. If you need your Parent Portal access code, have trouble logging in, or have questions about reports, your student’s school counselor will be happy to help.

White Hall was well represented by four spellers at the Jefferson County Spelling Bee on February 5, 2026: Geoffrey Gallinero, Anna Vy, Wes Branch, and Melody McLeod. Anna earned 3rd place, and Geoffrey took home 1st place! Our students competed alongside spellers from Friendship Academy, Watson Chapel, and Pine Bluff. Geoffrey will now advance to represent White Hall at the Arkansas State Spelling Bee in March.

Members heard from guest speaker Emerie Ross, Miss Greater Camden’s Teen 2026, who shared how FBLA helps build leaders, encourages exploration of new topics, strengthens networking skills, and teaches students to grow through failure. She also invited two WHMS FBLA members to participate in a live question-and-answer panel. Owen Todd and Layla Hudson represented WHMS with confidence and strong speaking skills on stage.
Congratulations to the following FBLA members that placed in their competitive events. Each will advance to the Middle Level FBLA State Conference on April 9.
