On behalf of the White Hall Middle School staff and students, we would like to thank you for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers as we absorb the shock of losing Coach Mallett. Our prayers are with his mother, family, friends, WHHS family, fellow coaches, and his beloved players. We hope that his mother and loved ones will find some peace in knowing that Coach Mallett, “Mallett” to us, was loved not as a “former Razorback” or “former NFL player,” but because he was “Mallett.” Many of us don’t have his autograph, we don’t even have pictures with him, because he was just like us. People who have made the decision to do what ever it takes to make a positive impact on children. With Mallett around, we always had someone to open our doors for us, carry our stuff, (teachers tote around a lot,) and borrow dry erase markers because he never had one. He would always laugh knowing it was only the twentieth time he’d asked. He was nervous about small group testing and his SOR observations, taking notes like a champ. He wasn’t afraid to ask for help, which earned him a nickname that we will not mention. He would just laugh and you had to respect him for wanting to do the best job he could, on and off the field. Walking in at 8am on a school day will not be the same without his smile, his stories, his request to borrow something or his need for help with something. To us, he was a “champ” not because of his past athletic accolades, but because he made everyone around him smile and laugh even on the hard days. We were blessed with the time we had as his coworkers and will miss him terribly.
