DESE Releases School Accountability Reports

November 17, 2022

Dear Parents, Guardians, Families, and Community Members,

The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) provides a series of reports designed to obtain a snapshot of student performance. Reports are located in My School Info and include the Public School Rating (Accountability At-a-Glance), ESSA School Index, and School Report Card.

The School Rating (Accountability At-a-Glance) converts the ESSA School Index score into a letter grade and shows student performance broken down by various subgroups of students. The ESSA School Index is derived from the following:

  • Weighted Achievement–student performance for the tested year

  • School Valued Added Growth–comparison of each student’s growth from the previous school year

  • School Quality Success Score (SQSS)--many factors determine this score, including absenteeism

Given the challenges presented in the past two years, we are pleased to see growth in several key areas. Our students performed above the state average in both ACT Readiness and the ACT Composite Score. Continued work is needed to close the learning gap created by the COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason, we have implemented an eight-period school day. This additional period provides an opportunity for all students to receive individualized help. Our teachers' and students' hard work shows in the growth found in our reports, and I am excited to see the progress we make during the 2022-2023 school year.

Sincerely,

Nathan Sullivan
White Hall High School, Principal
