This Week's Fresh Fruit is Grape Tomatoes

Did You Know??

  • Grape tomatoes, also known as "sugar plum tomatoes," were first developed in the 1990s in Southeast Asia. Their oval shape is similar to a grape, with an average size of ¾ of an inch.
  • In the U.S., grape tomatoes started out as a novelty item and weren't commonly found in grocery stores. As soon as people discovered how sweet they were, they became very popular!
  • Grape tomatoes have slightly thicker skin than cherry tomatoes and aren't quite as juicy--but they're just as sweet.
  • Their small size makes them perfect to take along as a snack. Grape tomatoes are also great with dips and salads.
