Mrs. Johnson's Kindergarteners had so much fun spinning the number wheel today! After each spin, they showed their number on a ten frame using fun smelly markers. Such a great way to practice number recognition, counting, and find motor skills, all while keeping it playful and engaging!

Mrs. Johnson’s kindergarteners played a fun review game called Mystery Bag! Students reached into a bag of letters, felt one without looking, and guessed what it was. Then they pulled it out, named the letter, said its sound, and thought of a word that starts with it. This playful activity builds letter recognition and sound awareness, and it’s easy to try at home with fridge magnets or flash cards!
In Mrs. Akins’ 1st grade class, students are teaming up to build closed syllable short ‘u’ words using our Really Great Reading kits, a curriculum designed to build strong foundational reading skills.

Kindergarten is in full swing at Gandy! Mrs. Johnson’s class has been busy learning to cut with scissors, practicing upper- and lowercase letters with the first letter of their names, and even making the most of a rainy day by enjoying recess in the classroom. Students enjoyed joining the “One Piece of Trash Club,” practicing careful cutting and keeping their scraps together so there’s only one piece of paper left to throw away.
