Taylor Elementary School Parents and Students,
Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! Our school is in Year 3 of implementing The Leader in Me program. Our teaching staff has received 5 days of training in the program. During the first year of The Leader in Me program, students learned to:
Habit 1: Be Proactive
Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind
Habit 3: Put First Things First
Habit 4: Think Win-Win
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
Habit 6: Synergize
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
Last school year, students and teachers learned to set personal and academic goals. These goals are called WIGS-Wildly Important Goals. As a school, we set a goal to improve our number of students reading on grade level. We achieved our goal by December! We celebrated by allowing students to turn me into a human sundae. As a school, we celebrate achievements every Friday morning. Students are recognized for showing leadership and academic achievements.
The Leader in Me program strives to help each child become the leader of their own lives. Students will become leaders in the classrooms, in the school and at home. "Leadership is communicating a person's worth and potential so clearly that they are inspired to see it in themselves." Franklin Covey We have a student lighthouse team that helps make decisions for our school. They have service projects and lead the Friday morning celebrations. These students apply for the position and are interviewed for the selection process.
We are so glad to have you at Taylor Elementary School. Taylor is such a special place to attend school. We have a strong teaching staff, great students and supportive parents. The faculty and staff are very dedicated to your children. Good communication is key when working together to provide the best education for your child. Keep the line of communication open. Don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher! I encourage you to contact the teacher with concerns before contacting me. I am always happy to help you with any issue, but the teacher should be the first contact. Teachers are happy to e-mail or return phone calls on their planning period each day.
We have a very strong PTO at Taylor. The PTO Board works hard to raise funds for multiple projects each school year. Please share ideas with any board member concerning fund raisers, projects or your desire to help with any projects. We need hard-working and willing parents to help us reach our goals.
We invite you to volunteer at school. We have many opportunites to volunteer at Taylor. Mentoring Moms, WATCH DOG dads, copying and laminating just to name a few. Call the office if you have questions for how you can sign up. We would love to have you.
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to work with your child. Please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me anytime you have questions or concerns.
