Moody Music

  •  Welcome to Music

    OVERVIEW

Each of the classes K-5 comes to music once a week for a fifty-minute period.  The music curriculum follows the Arkansas State Music Frameworks.  The Making Music series (Silver Burdett, 2002) and the Spotlight on Music series (Macmillan, 2008) serve as the core for sequential music instruction.  There are hardback student books for grades two through five and illustrated big books for kindergarten and first grade.  Many kinds of instruments and music videos are provided to supplement learning.

Children are introduced to the basic concepts  of music: rhythm, melody, form, harmony, style, and expression.  Music activities include listening, moving to music, singing, playing classroom instruments, and playing music games.  Emphasis is placed upon folk music, patriotic songs, seasonal music, instrument families, music reading, composers, and multicultural music with an across-the-curriculum approach.

Students in grades three through five are given the opportunity to audition for the Moody Singers.  We will no longer have two choirs. The Moody Singers will present two programs per year and sing at the Capital during Christmas.

A special program for grade levels two and five will be added performances this year (2018-2019).  The second grade will be performing "The Littlest Reindeer" on Thursday, December 13th @ 2:00 PM .  The 5th Grade will be performing a farewell program on Thursday, May 16th @ 2:00 PM.  There will be auditions during music class for these performances and most rehearsals will be during school.
