                                                     Appeals Procedures for GATE

Step One:  The appealer may request a conference with the GT Coordinator regarding the placement decision.  If the appealer still questions the decision, the formal appeals process is begun.

Step Two:  The appealer should present a written statement of appeal that includes information sharing why the appealer feels the student should have been placed in the GT program.

Step Three:  Administration officials shall be notified of appeals in process and may be included in the process.

Step Four:  The appealer may meet with a committee, composed of members of the initial identification committee and new members, chaired by the GT Coordinator.  The committee shall include at least 5 professional educators.  The appealer will NOT be present when the committee reviews data and decides placement.  The committee may decide to collect more data.

Step Five:  The placement decision shall be communicated in writing.

Step Six:  If the party still wishes to appeal, a meeting with the principal or superintendent may be requested.
