Dear Parents,

Newly elected Judge Earnest E. Brown, Jr. has amended the process for reporting unexcused absences to the Juvenile Court. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of this change and to remind you of the importance of communicating with the school office concerning parent-excused absences and other documented excused absences . (See pp. 16-17 in Student Handbook)

When four (4) unexcused absences have occurred, a FINS Petition (Family in Need of Services) will be sent to Judge Brown’s office at Juvenile Court along with the child’s discipline and attendance records. Diversion hearings will no longer be scheduled; instead, Judge Brown will contact you with further instructions.
